Today brought to close the second week of my internship at Montgomery COunty Community COllege- as my friends and followers on Facebook are aware. More or less I've been doing various types of press releases that are posted on the schools website of that people are able to see what's coming along.
that all being said when I come home I'm not quite int he mood to be writing after doing it all day so, hence, my novel is STILL not being worked on. but at least I'm learning more writing skills.
Back in June i said I was sending out various stories for publications. I recieved word about two of them and both answers were no. the editors said my stuff was really good and that they'd love to publish them, howevor they are set for the next few months. they want me to re-submit again in another 5 or so months- after the holidays are well over and they reach their slower period.
I've also been workin on a story the week or two when i've been on my break during the internship. The story is titled 'Dead Man's Song' and it's a kind of modern re-telling of an old legend that surrounds bluesman Robert Johnson. According to the Legend Robert Johnson (who, by the way I suggest everyone check out at some point)wanted badly to become a master of the guitar. I expressed his desires to some local friends who told him to meet his at the crossroads outside the edge of town and wait for a man to arrive. After a couple hours Robert was getting his things and starting home when He arrived. A large black man in a fine tailored suit approached the young Robert. Robert, knowing the man to be the devil, handed over the guitar. The devil tuned the instrument and performed a few songs and gave it to the man. Once the guitar passed back Robert was gifted with the ability to play. Legend says once he was handed back he was then the greatest bluesman ever to touch the guitar.

Never argue with an idiot.
They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!
My ex bought the Alvin & the Chipmunks movie and of course my kids love it, so I've seen it a few times. Reading this I was reminded of a scene near the opening of the film in which Dave is rejected by a friend of his from college who's now a producer in the music industry. As they're walking in they treat him like a rockstar, offering him all kinds of things from coffee and muffins to a massage. They get to the office, he listens to the demo tape for all of 15 seconds, stops it and says "Lets talk about your song, Dave... Your song sucks... if I weren't your friend, I'd say get out there and keep trying, but I am your friend, so I'm telling you straight up, there's no point in writing songs that no one is ever going to sing." Then on the way out he asks for a cup of water and they tell him they ran out.
Anyway, given that as a comparison, the request for a later submission sounds promising.
Seriously though, my first article for the ColdFusion Developer's journal was rejected out-of-hand because the editor at the time thought the topic would be too advanced for the readers. Then someone else suggested I rework and resubmit the proposal, so I did and it was accepted. The line-editor they got suggested that I start over from scratch after the first draft. So I did that. The end result is that article is one of the most popular articles ever printed in that particular trade magazine. So yeah, I think it's a great sign.

I've got an old VHS around here somewhere of an episode of Galaxy Rangers that I watched again a couple years ago and was surprised at how "adult" that particular episode was. Not all of them, but that one, without having any kind of nudity whatsoever, presented character depth, complex emotions and relationship dynamics that are still confusing to me even as an adult.
